CommunityAIR fights for public use of public land
Dear Marie,
I do not recall any CommunityAIR members saying "close the airport and demolish historic buildings." In fact other buildings that the city has slated for demolition on Toronto Island have been transformed by community members into wonderful assets. Two examples are the firehall on Ward’s Island which has become a fantastic canoe club and summer camp for children and the Island Public School which was made into Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts, providing studio space for artists as well as conference rooms for workshops etc.
Your attempts at painting CAIR members in a bad light are disgraceful at best. While you are trying to defend a polluting, noisy, airport that any urban planner would say is clearly in the wrong place, this community is merely fighting to protect the health and well being of its members, to maintain a clean green waterfront, to diminish the impact of increased traffic and to object to abuse of tax-payer money. With the addition of thousands of new condo residents in the area, closing the airport and increasing the parkland on Toronto Island would be much better use of this land.
Frank
