Airport opponents should think about "Plan B"
Mr. Syperek,
I find it ironic that you think that Mr. Freeman
is missing the point by focusing on Porter's financial shortcomings but
somehow, your "emotionally compelling events" would be just what the
doctor ordered.
Mr. Syperek, you too are missing the point. As
I've TRIED and TRIED to tell the CAIR leadership for over 2 years now,
HOW ABOUT FOCUSING ON HAVING AN OPEN, CONSTRUCTIVE AND MUTUALLY
BENEFICIAL INTERACTION WITH THE PORT AUTHORITY? Boy that would be a
novel concept. You know, instead of shooting down their PR person when
she TRIES to respond to CAIR misinformation, let's see what we can do -
TOGETHER - to make this airport operate with the least amount of impact
to those most affected. Am I the only one that fails to see the logic
of sitting around hoping for Porter to fail or waiting for those
"emotionally compelling events" to happen?
When will airport
opponents finally start thinking about PLAN - B. The plan that involves
the reality that the airport is likely to be here for the rest of most
of our lifetimes and that "wishing" it to disappear or calling airport
users "glitterati" or "latte sipping yuppies" etc etc etc etc isn't
going to change anything.
I wholeheartedly acknowledge that the
TPA has a large role to play in the communication aspect of PLAN - B and
that they have mostly failed miserably in the past. However, CAIR as
the apparent defacto representatives for airport opponents, also have a
responsibility to act in a constructive fashion.
For example - just to get the agenda started:
1) What is the status of the noise barrier for the engine maintenance area?
2) How about negotiating a compromise to allow engine maintenance runs only during specific hours and for limited durations?
3)
How about examining noise profiles for aircraft using the airport from
the west and from the east. Surely one of these is quieter for the
neighboring communities so let's set up a plan to use the least
obtrusive runway as often as winds permit (Pearson does this every
night).
Mr. Syperek, in my opinion, your "emotionally compelling
events" are as short sighted as many of the other rants I have read on
this blog. There is absolutely nothing constructive that can come from a
serious aircraft accident. Opponents on this blog have been offended
by advertisements that have people appearing to walk over the waterfront
but oddly no one appears to be offended by someone suggesting the
"benefits" of a serious aircraft accident. That is just desperate &
SAD!
Joe
