Ruining the island park?
Spending many a day on the islands
and out on the spit this past summer, I was surprised at how infrequent
and when they did fly how quiet the planes were. Certainly by the line
up at the ferry docks patrons of the parks don't think the parks are
spoiled!
That being said, in the winter when the air is denser I
can imagine sound carrying quite a bit more, while at the same time not
being drowned out nearly as much by public park use, most harbour
traffic and the like. (I would have to think the trees being bare would
contribute as well)
That being said I have little sympathy for
anyone to moved into their current living arrangements after the
tripartite agreement was signed. One should never assume a piece of
disused infrastructure will remain that way. It is like moving next to a
mothballed streetcar track then complaining about streetcar noise if
the city decided to reactivate the route!
You know what people
that can't leave their windows open and listen to tv at a reasonable
volume or talk on the phone, it is the same for many people far from the
airport due to street noise. It is hardly arduous.
Island
tenants should be thankful they are allowed to remain on the islands
subsidized by other island users and the rest of city of Toronto water
and hydro rate payers.
Only when the leases expire will there be the moral authority to take the rest of the island back from private users.
