Waterfront airport makes no sense, but he'll live with it
I wish the Island Airport did not exist but Sweet Marie is right! The numbers that Porter is reporting are very good. The airline business is seasonal so you have to look at on a year-over-year basis(i.e. Sep/10 vs. Sep/09.) Based on this analysis, Porter is doing exceptionally well. The load factor averaged 51% in the second half of 2009 and in the second half of 2010 it was 59%. This is an impressive feat especially considering that the company is still in a high growth phase.
Deluce does run a fantastic airline. And he deserves credit for doing so. And the results are now starting to show this. Good for him, his investors and his customers. This country would certainly be a less attractive place to live if it wasn't for successful entrepreneurs like Deluce.
I don't like having an airport on our waterfront. I just don't think it makes sense. But guess what? I'm not the only one with an opinion and there are many that do like having Porter. So I guess I'm just going to have to live with it.
My form of therapy will be to buy shares in Porter if it ever goes public. That way, when I look up and see or hear a Porter plane, I can take comfort that I am making money with every takeoff!
