Restrict engine runups to daytime hours

Hi Mr. Freeman,

Just to be clear, I was not the one that suggested moving engine maintenance runs to another airport. Mr. Iler and most CAIR supporters have made that suggestion.

I was pointing out that this would be difficult to achieve since the maintenance runs take place where the aircraft receives its maintenance. If Porter happens to fix one of their planes in Ottawa, then the corresponding engine maintenance run (if required) would be conducted in Ottawa. Most times, the aircraft cannot fly again until certain parameters are checked in engine performance (pressures, temperatures etc...). This precludes the aircraft from being "flown" elsewhere for the engine run.

While I cannot take credit for suggesting that engine maintenance runs be conducted elsewhere, I will reiterate that as a compromise to the community, these maintenance procedures should be carried out during normal operating hours. While this will not reduce the noise they create, at least MOST people will actually be awake instead of trying to sleep. Furthermore, I've already made this suggestion to Mayor Ford as a proposal that can help alleviate some stress in the community as the airport gains new tenants. I was hoping he might have an open mind to the idea coming from an airport supporter.

Take Care!
Joe
