Island airport: The jury's still out

We’re not sure why Rob Granatstein would now start crowing about the Island Airport’s success.

The jury’s still out, as Porter’s financial success is far from assured.

Contrary to what Porter had been saying, its last publically available financial reports – to last March 31 - revealed that it had accumulated losses, to that point, of a whopping $44,505,000.

Worse, it lost $5,972,000 in the first three months of 2010, $1,363,000 greater than its losses for all of 2009.

Not a pretty picture.

Certainly not the success Rob tries to paint.

It can only get worse for Porter when Air Canada comes in.

And we can be reasonably sure, that once Porter’s gone, Air Canada will promptly scale down it s operations at the Island Airport and transfer them back to Pearson. As it has before.

That’ll be a relief for those millions of visitors to Toronto’s waterfront each year who currently have to endure the almost constant noise and pollution generated by that airport.
