CommunityAir's "Ostrich approach" criticized
Porter "May" fail, and the remaining carriers and some new ones will pick up the remaining slots and operate using the NEW modern terminal that Porter built (US Airways - Philadelphia, New York, Washington, Boston),(Continental - add Cleveland to Newark),(United - Chicago, Washington Dulles) (Delta - Detroit & Cincinnati),(JAZZ or whatever regional carrier Air Canada chooses will continue Ottawa & Montreal)
Porter projects almost 1.3 million customers this year so it is a futile argument to say that everyone will just walk away from the airport and it's 1.3 million passengers AKA "DEMAND". The new terminal & possible tunnel OR bridge change the dynamic entirely from the days when JAZZ couldn't even fill 6 flights a day using a WW2 era terminal.
Furthermore, even without a tunnel or bridge, the new ferry is head and shoulders above the OLD one.
Frankly, I'm disappointed in the "Ostrich" approach that Mr. Iler has chosen. To bank on the failure of Porter AND the eventual cessation of all commercial flight activity at the BBTCA is far fetched to say the least. Burying your head in the sand until everything returns to "normal" is not a solution or a strategy but a very desperate HOPE.
Once again, CAIR leadership FAILS to seize the opportunity to engage in a meaningful and constructive dialogue on the future of a waterfront that includes an airport.
I think Mr. Iler should respectfully step down as Chairperson of CAIR in light of his dismal handling of this entire issue! This latest Ostrich tactic only reinforces my argument.
What do you think?
Take Care!
