Feedback from a (former) fan

At one time I use to enjoy the dilogue and debate on this site. It now feels like it is just a rant against the airport. This site like to use the "growing number of people who object to the airport" but provides no numbers. However when an organization with an alternate point of view has a poll conducted (by a reputable organization) that aligns with a view counter to Communityair, the instant response is to say that it is a biased poll.

You like to say that the company is almost bankrupt because of its finances, however they still have planes in the air, and people are flying them. You like to emphasize that their planes are not as full as Air Canada or Westjet, but you fail to note that due to their cost structure they need less bums in the seat to be profitable. If memory serves me correct their breakeven rate is around 48 or 49% and they are not too far off from that objective. Didn't Air Canada just have to secure $900M of financing to help keep their operations going (keeping mind that they were near bankruptcy last year and had to borrow $700m). Furthermore, Porter has grown rapidly, which inherrantly means that they will have higher costs, than what they would have once they have leveled out the mass acquisition of new fleet and hiring staff. In short, let's look at business potential instead of the shut the island airport.

My last comment (for today at least) is anybody on the island, live on the waterfront or Queens Quay, should have known that there was an airport there and as such there maybe some inconveniences. You can't move in and then complain latter. My view is get the residents of the island and convert it to park land.
