Twice as many planes = twice as much noise
I've debated the impact of Porter on the waterfront with a friend
over the past year or so. Whenever I mentioned my concern about noise,
he would smirk at me and thought I was a bit crazy. All of his
experiences along the waterfront were not materially impacted by Porter.
But
just yesterday, he told me that he spent some time at HtO Park on the
weekend. He admitted that the planes were indeed quite noisy and a
disturbance to him. He had trouble concentrating on a book he was
trying to read.
He was not disturbed when there were 4,6,8,10
planes operating but now with 20, he doesn't like it. When we discussed
the noise at 8 or 10 planes, I encouraged him to try to imagine what it
would be like with twice as many planes. He seemed incapable of doing
so. This guy has a business degree and two major financial designations
but didn't seem to understand what 10 multiplied by 2 meant! Go figure!
Anyhow....if
the airport gets busier (traffic doubles), I really hate to see what
the waterfront will be like.
As for the cancellation of the IPO,
do not celebrate too soon! A few good quarters by Porter and a
stronger stock market and they will easily sell their IPO.
