CommunityAir's analysis: a dissenting view
RE: CommunityAIR’s Analysis of the
Porter Airlines Preliminary Prospectus
Mr. Iler, Mr. Kotyk, & Mr. Freeman.
The sheer number of unsubstantiated claims, inaccurate applications of standards, contradictions and speculation contained in your document cannot be adequately discussed within a 3000 character limit. But of course, I will TRY.
Many of these issues have already been discussed and refuted on this very blog but the CAIR message remains the same.
Instead, I will present my own submission to the OSC contradicting most of the document you have presented.
15 months of debate, input and discussions on this blog have obviously fallen on deaf ears. Add to this, the numerous Press Releases that spew the same misinformation and it becomes very clear that you can read what I'm saying but you either don't believe it or just choose to ignore it.
Here's a taste of what the OSC will receive. BTW - ALL of these items have been discussed previously on this blog.
Where's the proof of Mounting Community Opposition? Oh I see, now it's only the community and not the entire City of Toronto - very subtle but still unfounded.
Do you even know what the 'Canadian Runway Friction Index' IS and HOW it is applied?
Very misleading quote from Bombardier engineers. Porter doesn't operate at Max weights (which you acknowledged earlier) yet figures for MAX weights are used.
No explanation or source for long list of apparent curfew violations. Whose watch was being used & was that watch synchronized with the time in the Control Tower or was it a blatant disregard for the terms and conditions of flight tracking websites?
Size of aircraft has NO bearing on the NEF - N= NOISE. The Dash8-400 is quieter than the Dash8-100 - hence the increase in available slots. And, YES, they are both Dash 8s - therefore permitted.
Porter's load factors are lower (explained to death) but - conveniently - no mention that their break even level is also MUCH lower than ALL competitors.
Airport Safety Risks - not that again.
The 40,000+ (and counting) safe Porter flights (aka reality) refute that statement.
And many, many more.
So, ironically, CAIR is not presenting a very fair, balanced and accurate picture to the OSC. The resulting
impact on your credibility may play a role in how seriously your letter is considered.
Unlike 'very worried mom' who will never debate an issue raised by CAIR, I know better. Sadly, CAIR preys on the ignorance of the masses and continuously tries to build opposition based on fear and misinformation.
Your desperate attempts to close the airport tarnish the legitimate operational issues that can & should be corrected. Unfortunately, that would require a "CONSTRUCTIVE" approach which is not in the CAIR handbook.
So, continue fighting to close the airport, while hurting your credibility and missing opportunities to make improvements that would benefit everyone - opponents and supporters along the waterfront.
Joe
