Q400 fuel efficiency - another view
RE: Q400 & Fuel efficiency.
We've already dealt with thisquestion many months ago but either Mr. Iler has a short memory or likesto repeat refuted statements. For the record Mr. Iler, what is yourfull aviation background to justify this meaningless comparison? I'vebeen in the field in various capacities for 18 years.
To compare aDash 8-400 to an Airbus A319 that has 2X the seats is Apples andOranges. A319s fly from Toronto to Vancouver and Los Angeles forgoodness sakes. Any airline buying an A319 isn't comparing it to a Dash8-400 at purchase decision time. I suspect CAIR believes in the"fairness" of this comparison because it suits their goal of tarnishinganything to do with Porter or the Island Airport.
ComparingPorters Dash 8s to the Air Canada Jazz 1984 era Dash 8's would yield amore accurate and relevant result. In the mind of ANY unbiased aviationindustry pundit, this is the ONLY fair comparison.
The fact isthat the Dash 8-400 is obviously more efficient in any meaningfulmeasurement compared to the 1984 era aircraft that IT replaced at theIsland. (explains the proposed slot increase) Furthermore, if youcompare the Dash 8-400 to any comparably sized jet (instead of one with2X the seats) the Porter aircraft is more efficient again.
Porteralso flies to Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Boston, Chicago & Quebec City. All of these routes are predominantly 50-70 seat jets or older Dash 8s(Sudbury) So do we give Porter credit for being the MORE efficientairline to these destinations compared to their Pearson competitors? Ofcourse not.
IF CAIR believes there is a more efficient aircraftthan the Dash 8-400 that is allowed to use the Island airport, thenplease let us know what that aircraft is. Since the Airbus A319 is soefficient, why isn't CAIR fighting to lift the jet ban and allow themost efficient aircraft to use the airport? If you want less pollutionand in many cases LESS noise, there are many jets that could providethese benefits to the community. All that needs to be done is to bringthe TriPartite Agreement into the next century and update it withmeaningful and relevant standards. Nobody wants to hear that - it's toological.
You can't have it both ways and you certainlyshouldn't be comparing the Dash 8-400 to an aircraft that isn't evenallowed to use the Island airport.
There has not been a breach ofthe Securities Act, and ultimately that will be the proof that yourcomparison IS NOT VALID.
Take Care and please stop being sofrustrating. You have enough reasonable and legitimate gripes to pursue- this clearly isn't one of those.
Take Care!
Joe
