The Toronto Port Authority and Earth Hour 2010

Community Air Press Release:

In a stunning display of hypocrisy, the Toronto Port Authority (TPA) announced Thursday that it is taking part in Earth Hour “to bring attention to the need for everyone to do their part to fight climate change.”

The rogue agency, answerable only to Transport Minister John Baird, announced on Christmas Eve that it would double the flights from the Billy Bishop Toronto Centre Airport, better known as the Island Airport, in 2010 and spew even more kilograms of toxins over Toronto's waterfront each hour.

In what can be described only as a flight from reality, the TPA believes that inviting photographers and video-camera operators to take pictures of a darkened Toronto skyline, will somehow expunge the TPA’s dismal record of polluting the waterfront.

The claim by Geoffrey Wilson, the TPA's President and Chief Executive Officer, that the TPA, ... "is working year-round to develop and execute measures that will reduce fossil fuel consumption, carbon emissions and other environmentally harmful practices," can best be described as a sick joke.
