Engine run ups test repairs

Mr. Iler wrote,

"Run-ups are ear-splittingly loud, and should only be carried out in an area that is far from prime recreational and residential areas. That means Pearson."

The reason an engine run is required in the first place is to ensure that repairs that have been made to an engine are satisfactory. These repairs allow the aircraft to be returned to service and actually fly again. Therefore, it is impossible to fly an aircraft somewhere else to do an engine run that is required PRIOR to the aircraft returning to the air.

No doubt engine maintenance is probably the worst noise offender on the waterfront. Suggesting an impossible solution does nothing to further the cause.
