RE: Airport Noise Logs.
I think recording noise levels is a good idea and perhaps some other locations around the airport + waterfront should be sampled for comparison.
i.e. the NORTH side of the same building across from Little Norway Park, South Beach, Harbourfront, Centre Island picnic areas etc... Maybe areas not traditionally associated with airport noise impact should be measured to determine the real point where airport noise starts to make a difference. Furthermore, differences based on what runway is in use during the measurement period might provide greater insight.
There were some inconsistencies in the way the figures were characterized (i.e. very loud, loud etc.) In some cases 82db was represented as "loud" and in others it was "very loud". In another case, there was a "loud" 85db taxiing aircraft compared to a "very loud" 75db plane.
At the end of the day, we all have different tolerance levels to noise so while the numbers may be absolute, their real impact will probably vary considerably.
On another noise related issue - I'm mystified by the recent curfew violations of 4 departures well after 11PM. Clearly, there is NO excuse for such blatant violations but an explanation from Porter or the TPA wouldn't hurt.
Take Care!
