The Q400 is not quiet

Kyle

The notion that the Q400 aircraft used by Porter is a quieter plane is a myth.  Yes, the "Q" stands for quiet.  It is quieter for passengers.  The aircraft has insulation to muffle the noise for those inside the plane, but it is impossible to muffle the sound of the engines for those outside the plane.  In fact, It is louder than the Dash 8 that was used by Jazz.

Anyone who lives in the neighbourhood can attest as to how loud the Porter planes are.  That is one of the reasons why we welcome an objective NEF contour study.
