Dear Mayor Miller:
Perhaps by now you may have read the email from Brian Iler of CommunityAir, I urge you to please consider including most if not all of the items Mr. Iler mentions into any agreement with the TPA. You have a chance to actually try to protect the Harbourfront neighbourhoods from further encroachment by the airport. You have claimed in the past to care about harbourfront and it’s residents, this is your chance to actually do something that will protect those communities. Please consider including some protective measures within this so called agreement with the TPA. These neighbourhoods require protection that has some teeth. I’m sure you realize even the Tripartite Agreement has not prevented the total disregard by the TPA, Federal Government and Porter Airlines from breaking curfew, noise levels and in fact allowing an aircraft to operate out of that location which is in fact not a STOL aircraft.
There is a lot of talk about David Miller’s legacy, your Chairmanship of the Copenhagen conference on climate change, a clean, green Toronto, perhaps protecting our own jewel of Harbourfront should jump a little higher on your priority list Mr. Miller.
Oh and by the way, I do live on Queen’s Quay for now, but I will be moving, the disaster that Harbourfront is and will be with increased Porter flights, increased traffic congestion, the fact I can no longer walk my dog along what should be a beautiful waterfront because of the sounds of gunfire (so called wildlife management at the airport!) and waves of aviation fuel fumes that drift over the area, left me only one choice. I will however continue to support the closure of both the TPA and the airport from a quieter part of our not so clean and green Toronto!
Yours sincerely,
C. P. Hughes
