What is a fair comparison?

When you compare the fuel efficiency of a compact car and a BUS, what do you expect to find?
Isn't it more "fair" to compare similar vehicle types and in this case, similar aircraft types?
The 30+ seat bus will have a better per person efficiency than the small car but does that suddenly mean that the small car IS NOT EFFICIENT?
Call Porter whatever you want but acknowledge the unfair basis of comparison when you choose to do so.
