Which airline produces the most air pollution?
Joe - I checked today:
If a passenger is looking to see what flight contributes the least to climate change, the comparison is with Porter's main competition: Westjet and Air Canada.
Westjet flies the 737-700 from Toronto to Ottawa. My analysis shows that Westjet's 737-700 comes out well ahead of Porter's Q400 - in part because it has reduced the number of seats to allow it to use the Island airport's short runway. That directly results in higher greenhouse gas emissions per passenger.
Perhaps you could do the same comparison with AC's Embraer 190 and A320-200 - which fly the Toronto-Ottawa run in competition with Porter (data for them is not on the Flybe website)?
I suspect the answer's the same.
