High speed trains are the technology of tomorrow
I think that all three airlines -- Porter, Westjet and Air Canada -- should stop their polluting, short haul flights. The answer is high speed trains powered by clean electric power. That is the technology of tomorrow, and the longer we wait the more difficult it will be to catch up with other countries.
Today's posting on high speed trains around the world, makes the point that the United States is behind the Europeans, Japanese and Chinese, but Canada is even far behind the U.S. We are not in the running. We have no high speed trains approved, and the government, led by Stephen Harper, is not even considering them. They seem to be too busy protecting the Alberta tar sands environmental disaster.
At least the NDP and the Liberals seriously propose high speed trains as an important part of the solution for global warming. They recognize that this is the way to solve the problem of polluting, short haul flights.
When will Canada wake up to what is going on in the rest of the developed world and begin a program to bring 21st century technology to this country?
Once that is truly underway the debate that we have been having, about the Island Airport, will disappear.
