Joe defends his record

Mr. Freeman,

I'm assuming that since you moderate the forum you actually read my first blog entry about safety concerns at the TCCA. The one where I list that half of the cautions are to avoid overflying specific neighborhoods or to watch out for banner towing aircraft at the CNE. These are hardly hazards.

I also pointed out that the seasoned fliers (pilots) that use the airport completely disagree with you. I have NEVER in 16 years of aviation related employment (including 5 at the TCCA) heard a pilot say that the TCCA is dangerous or that they have any reservations about using the facility. Should we take your word for it or the pilots whose lives are the ones actually at stake with every takeoff or landing?

Furthermore, while the airport is near the downtown, NONE of the approach or departure paths are over the city and the main runway ends in water at both ends - which is favorable when compared to buildings like most airports.

The runways are short when compared to Pearson but they are more than adequate for the TCCA's traffic as the 500 safe Porter flights per week should attest to.

If you had read my previous comments - I have already made all of these points very clear and your rebuttal completely fails to acknowledge that.

I'm not sure what an apologist is but I can assure you that I am speaking from a position of direct experience at the airport and your claims are simply exaggerated. Your motive is only to have others fear the airport based on your opinions and unsubstantiated claims. As I told Mr. Kotyk many months ago (Feb 09), simply referring to the list of pilot cautions does not substantiate your claims. As I've asked many many times - how many aircraft have hit the Hearn Stack or the flagpole at Coronation Park? The answer is ZERO.

All of the new construction along the shoreline is assessed for impact on the airport PRIOR to being approved. Tip Top Lofts had to settle for a few less Million dollar suites due to proximity to the airport. These factors are all taken into account but you choose to ignore these and many other facts.

Kindly re-read my recent postings to see how you have missed the boat on this one.

Thanks.
Joe
