TPA charge for crossing the harbour is nuts!

Kyle:

Except that the Toronto Port Authority charge of .50 cents to cross the harbour is totally bogus.  That would be like the city charging citizens every time they crossed a city street.  Technically the city owns the streets and they could charge people for walking on them but we all know that would be seen as totally nuts.

The TPA charging the city for ferry boats crossing the bay is so totally nutsoid that it is beyond belief.  At least the city owns the streets; the port authority does not own the harbour.  That is why the City of Toronto refuses to pay this bogus charge.

When will the Toronto Port Authority grow up and pay their share of property taxes?  They now earn money on their operations at the airport.  Every passenger using the airport pays $15 to the port authority.  In the past they received a yearly subsidy from the city and they have received substantial money from the federal government over the years.

It is time they paid their own way rather than levying bogus claims.
