This is not reassuing, Joe
Didn't you just recently try to reassure us all that the Toronto Harbour is safer because it has someone in the control tower, that we should feel lucky that the airport is there? How does this fit with your claim that a controller is not necessary after 11pm?
In the case of the crash in Hudson River, the controller was on the phone when the crash happened and the manager was out of the room according to this newspaper article: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/14/hudson-river-helicopter-p_n_259426.html.
Don't mean to be alarmist, but this is not reassuring Joe. If it's safer with a controller and the controller could be on the phone (or busy blogging), then how safe is it without a controller?
