Keeping score
The newspapers have entered into a battle for the hearts and minds of Torontonians on the issue of the pedestrian tunnel to the Island Airport.
The Globe and Mail published three letters about the tunnel today, all three in favour, none against. Score 3 in favour.
The Toronto Star published six letters about the tunnel, one in favour, four against and one (how shall we say) ambiguous.
The one that is hard to decipher says, "It would be icing on the cake if the tunnel also provided access for cyclists to the amazing islands trails." Since the only way a cyclist could get access to those "amazing trails" from the tunnel exit would be by cycling across the airport runways and dodging the planes taking off and landing, it is only fair to conclude that this is a neutral or undecided answer.
Score: four in favour, four against, one neutral. The only conclusion from this objective survey - as objective as the TPA's own survey - is the public is in favour of doing nothing.
