Some like the airport
I think it is time for us to consider that a lot of people like the idea of using the island airport. There is a reason that Porter is expanding and adding destinations. The fact is that it takes a while to get to Pearson from downtown, it puts more cars on the highway for long periods of time, and it takes a heck of a lot time to be processed through Pearson.
Also, just because Miller was elected Mayor it does not mean that all of his voters automatically do not want the airport on the island. He ran on many positions of which the Island airport is just one.
The airport was there first (prior to islanders and people living along the waterfront) thus those moving in knew or should have known what they were in for. I would support additional airlines going into the airport. The problem, as we know, is that Air Canada would go in with predatory pricing to drive Porter out of business and then reduce their flights again. (Remember City Express?)That being said, I think Porter is mature enough for some competition.
