Report #3 on Noise Committee
Last night’s Noise Meeting – Part 3
Another preliminary matter:
Community reps raised the total lack of progress by Transport Canada on the new NEF Contour study.
In accordance with the tripartite agreement, as the City last December 2 had submitted its request, Transport Canada is obliged to conduct a new Noise Exposure Forecast Study to ensure that current airport operations are within the required limits.
From discussions with Transport Canada, it appears that it no longer has the capacity to conduct that study, and must hire outside consultants. Although seven months have passed, to our knowledge, it has still not advertised for consultants to express an interest in conducting the study.
We pressed the TPA on the matter. While all agreed that an expression of urgent concern was necessary, the TPA refused to allow a motion to be voted on to that effect. For what it is worth, Ken Lundy volunteered to pass on the committee’s concerns to Transport Canada.
[Part 4 will summarize the consultant's report]
