End justifications - Close the Island Airport
The "justifications" of overflights and curfew violations by Joe and John Spragge do not alter the fact that the Island Airport is causing an increasing number of problems for the neighbours and it is going to get worse -- much worse.
Yes it is true that the number of curfew violations appear to be reduced, and we are all thankful for that, but medivac should not be operating out of the Island Airport. A location north of the city will provide much better service than the Waterfront. The only reason that medivac is on the island is that lease costs at the airport are lower. That is not a good reason. Service to the public and response times should be the primary considerations for services like medivac.
It does not surprise us that the overflights of South Etobicoke by aircraft operating out of the Island Airport are increasing. This airport is expanding rapidly and is about to explode. The number of planes -- large planes -- operating out of the Island and the number of passengers using the airport will at least double over the next 12 months. Expect the overflights to continue. All you can do is complain but don't expect them to do anything.
There is only one answer. Close the Island Airport and relocate Porter to Pearson, where it belongs.
