"Tunnel Vision" will ruin the Waterfront!
The belief that the Island Airport can be compatible with the Waterfront and the surrounding communities is now finished. Today the Toronto Star published a story "Tunnel vision at Island Airport" in which the full nightmare is revealed.

The story describes the latest dream of the Toronto Port Authority. They want to build a 120 metre tunnel that will be a passenger passageway from the mainland to the airport. And who will pay the cost of the tunnel estimated of between $20 and $40 million: the taxpayers of course. (Add that sum to the already $140 million that the taxpayers of Toronto and Canada subsidized this airport and the small elite of business and government people who use it.)
What about the federal government regulation that there will be no fixed link to the Island Airport, passed by the Paul Martin government? Mark McQueen, the TPA chairman, tells us that "It could be done under the current rules of the road."
In the article McQueen claims that the Island Airport will have more than one million passengers this year. With a new tunnel who knows how many they will be able to attract. And who knows how many other airlines will come to use the Island Airport? A mega airport is upon us.
The dream of a rejuvenated Waterfront for all of the people has turned into a nightmare dominated by a huge commercial airport. It must be stopped if we are to have a livable city.
David Miller where are you!!
You promised "No Island Airport Expansion." Do you want this to be your legacy as mayor? You must stop this madness now!
