Medivac and the Island Airport
Thanks for your information on the recent medevac flights, Ken.
There is certainly an exemption from the curfew for medevac and emergency flights. That exemption is intentionally very narrow, designed to protect the residential communities around the airport from any noise beyond that absolutely permitted. The exemption cannot be stretched to include aircraft returning to base once the medevac or emergency has ceased.
Please confirm that the TPA will adhere to the letter of the exemption, and allow aircraft to return to their base only where the curfew has expired. If refuelling is necessary during curfew, resort should be had to Pearson.
Toronto is an anomaly – no other city has an airport in the midst of its downtown. In other cities, medevac flights such as these would be handled by the airport on the outskirts of the city. Is there any reason why that could not happen here, so that residents are less disturbed?
