Airport Manager responds to Mom's posting on curfew violation
With respect to the posting “Mom reports curfew violation”; posted on May 21, 2009, the writer incorrectly identifies the aircraft as “a Porter Airline plane”.
An aircraft did land at approximately the time and date noted however it was an air ambulance returning to the airport from Thunder Bay. The aircraft was returning to base after transporting an infant and accompanying nurse to the Thunder Bay Health Science Centre. The infant required Advanced Care due to the severity of his illness.
The same aircraft departed less than 6 ½ hours later to Chatham, Ontario to pick up and transport a 9 year old child and a three member medical team, including a Doctor, to the Toronto City Centre Airport after the child had been severely burned in a house fire.
Both flights were dispatched by the Ontario Government organization which directs all air ambulance operations in the province.
The Toronto City Centre Airport operates in accordance with an agreement established in 1983 among three parties; the City, the Federal Government and the Toronto Port Authority. That agreement permits the operation of aircraft between the hours of 11:00pm and 6:45am for medical evacuation uses and other emergencies.
