Hello Anonymous,
Sorry, I did not see the cartoon in the SUN and I was very clear about NOT agreeing with the comment made by my former MP.
My thinly veiled help to Community Air has been in an attempt to ensure that ACCURATE and SENSIBLE arguments are made about the Toronto City Centre Airport. Many times, people make incredible claims based on unqualified sources and take those as gospel. I know better since I have alot of experience at the TCCA. I have also made very clear that although I am OPPOSED to closing the airport, I share the frustration of those dealing with increased noise and pollution from the facility.(having lived near Pearson for almost 13 years) I have also shared several suggestions for improvements to try and make the best of a difficult situation and have sent many unbiased e-mails (outside of the blog - unseen by you) to Community Air leadership addressing all types of aviation related questions & issues.
Current airport expansion is proceeding under the guidelines of the tripartite agreement - no expanded runways, no bridge and the number of flights is below the number allowed by the TRI-agreement. As for NO EVIDENCE of the TPA addressing concerns - maybe you aren't aware of the ongoing wildlife study or the noise study. On the Porter side, curfew violations are way DOWN.
Here's the point I have made many times before. If you'll only be happy once the airport closes, you might need to look into a PLAN B. As of today, there is no discussion of closing the airport nor is there anyone that can unilaterally close the facility. Therefore, it becomes more important seek improvements in any aspect of airport operations that can make the lives of those near the airport as bearable as possible - OR forever be unhappy.
I have no hidden agenda and I have been very open to the Community Air leadership. I don't believe the airport should close but I do believe in a fair, honest, reasonable and thorough debate based on accurate information from qualified sources.
If, in YOUR opinion, this makes my "affectations" thinner, then I can temper that with the numerous letters of thanks I have received.
Take Care!
Joe
