More on high speed rail
RE: "In Europe many of the short haul flights have been eliminated altogether once high speed rail lines are in operation." (Mr. Freeman's quote)
To all of the new rail fans on the blog, remember that London and Paris have been linked by High Speed rail for many years and YET, a typical day sees over 40 commercial flights between the two cities. Add to this, the unknown number of private jets on this same stretch of airspace.
I'm not opposed to high speed rail but I don't think enough has been said about the cost to build this infrastructure and the potential disruptions and possible land appropriations for thousands of people who live along the affected rail corridors.
PS - Good Luck at your rally.
Take Care!
Joe
