Political supporters and opponents
“And Michael Ignatieff has been a consistent opponent of Island Airport expansion” (Rae, Ignatieff and their position on the TPA 13Apr09)
What Ignazieff is saying belies the sentiment of the people around him. Paul Zed for example, his current chief of staff, is a strong TPA supporter. And he along with Volpe gave you guys a rough go at the hearing last year on the Canada Marine Act for Port Authorities. Remember it was the liberals who established the TPA in 1999 in the first place, and of whom a number of prominent liberal MPs (past and present) share networks with opportunists who see a buck to made with the island airport.
Incidentally what you say about Jack Layton/Olivia Chow is right on. They have been like sensible and wise voices crying in a wilderness of business greed, short-sightedness and ignorance. They been steadfast in their opposition to the island airport and have paid a considerable price for it. They have been derided and ridiculed unmercifully by pretty powerful and influential people including the CWA and the Toronto Board of Trade who don’t pull any punches when it comes to the island airport.
