Here's a link to an interesting article about a "leaked" UN document stating that shipping is far worse for the environment than flying is.

Now, before anyone leaps to their keyboards, I AM NOT SAYING that flying doesn't pollute. I am sending this as perspective to those who might like to bash aviation while appearing to ignore other sources of pollution.
