More on an airport in "downtown" Oakville

Hey PI,

RE: Let's build an airport in Oakville.

What is so GREAT about Mr. Wilson's Central Park comment?
I could just as easily argue that he is trying very hard to fit a square peg into a round hole. Statistics can be coerced and interpreted in so many ways.

Where on this blog did you pick up the delusional notion that anyone wants to build more airports? As far as I know, the only other site currently being proposed and assessed for an airport is in Pickering.

Also, this notion of sarcastically attacking Oakville residents is baseless and frankly childish. I even think Mr. Wilson should add his patented "blah blah" to that one. I'm quite sure that some Porter investors are likely some of your neighbors on the Toronto waterfront.

Since you are having trouble understanding Mr. Spragge's comments, let me explain it further.
IF the TCCA were to close, the air traffic currently using the facility would not just vanish but would move to another airport. Keeping in mind that Buttonville Airport is under financial pressure to close, the problem becomes even more acute. Porter and possibly the Air Ambulance service might move to Pearson, thereby adding to the already heavy environmental burden placed on residents in the neighborhoods around that airport.

The concept explained above is quite simple but it doesn't get much traction on the Toronto waterfront.
Comments like this from PI are primarily responsible for the perception among many members of Parliament that some airport opponents are simply NIMBY biased. Unfortunately, this completely overlooks the very real and difficult issues that must be addressed for residents near the TCCA.
Nonetheless, I have a hand written letter from my member of parliament who went on to portray the entire TCCA anti-airport movement in a very negative tone (i.e. island mafia) and added that many of their colleagues were of the same opinion.

As I've said before, if you want respect and consideration from ALL residents of Toronto, including those that live closer to Pearson than the TCCA, then take care to avoid blind siding Oakville residents and any other perspectives that don't exactly agree with your own by characterizing them as "blah blah". These types of responses do nothing to further your cause and only hurt your image.

Take Care!
Joe
