Pearson and the Island Airport
I'd like to ask all those people who talk about Pearson a question: Are there any residential neighbourhoods that are so close to Pearson that you can smell jet fuel? Perhaps there are...I'm just curious. If so...give us the exact location and someone can go check it out.
Secondly, I do acknowledge that residents living under Pearson flight paths endure noise. We all know that. I guess what the folks at CA are saying is that airports should not be located close to (or right in) the most beautiful and heavily visited areas of the city. Imagine the following:
Let's say that modern day Toronto does not exist and you've been given the job to build Toronto from scratch. You get to decide where everything gets located. Would you build heavy industry, airports, garbage dumps, etc in all the most beautiful and desired parts of the city (i.e. places where many people like to go on the weekend) and then build residential communities and recreational facilities in all the ugliest places?
The answer is so shockingly obvious I am mystified as to why there is this big debate. Well, I think we all know why we are having it.
