Runways and things

Hi Ane,

The direction of approach does dictate the runway numbering. Therefore, a runway facing north OR 360 Degrees is numbered runway 36 / Runway facing south or 180 degrees is numbered Runway 18 etc...

The Q400s can only use runways 08 or 26, the other 4 approaches (24,06,15,33) leading to runways that are generally too short.
I was trying to find out if Porter were to try and focus on using a particular approach late at night, if there would be benefits to MOST people. That is, would approaching beside Ontario Place be better than approaching near the Hearn Stack? Of course, winds and safety of operation would be primary, but on those days when either runway could be utilized, it would be nice to know that a runway of least impact is being used.

I know that all aircraft noise is troubling but again, my effort is mainly to think outside of what has been tried in the past to try and make the airport as tolerable as possible.

My gut tells me that most people prefer the Porter approach to Pearson since it causes the least noise complaints...

My Tour invitation was for the famous "SKYWATCHER" since I guessed that anyone with a handle like that must love planes.

Take Care Ane.
Joe.
