More on Pearson and Medevac

I asked for the guarantee tongue in cheek.

I only wanted to make the point that Medevac does not have a scheduled time - their flights are ANYTIME.

Asking Pearson to pick up the entire Medevac load is unprecedented in major airports worldwide. International airports accommodate periodic Medevac flights but are rarely a base for all operations. The reality is that most cities have the luxury of several other airport options in convenient locations with adequate facilities.

The Greater Toronto Area is greatly under served by airport facilities. The problem becomes even more critical if Buttonville were to close AND if the TCCA were to close.
Come to think of it, the worst thing that could happen to proponents of closing the TCCA is for Buttonville to close first. If that happens, it will be virtually impossible to rationalize closing the TCCA based on waterfront redevelopment.

For comparison, a city like Chicago is served by nearly a dozen airports within the Greater Chicago area and none of them have jet bans. When they bulldozed Meigs Field, they still had several viable options to relieve O'hare International. Toronto does not have this luxury.
