The considerable underutilized capacity at Pearson
Every airport in the world has underutilized capacity if you factor in overnight hours or periods of reduced traffic throughout the day - such as 10AM-12Noon etc. Medevac's do not have the luxury of waiting for that period of reduced traffic OR under utilization.
When a transplant organ in enroute, it has mere minutes to make it to the hospital - If they arrive when Pearson is experiencing a peak traffic period, they will be accommodated but likely with some delay - a delay they cannot afford. If Community Air can Guarantee that all of the Medevac flights will operate during those under utilized hours, then I will agree that all MEDEVACs should move to Pearson.
Therefore, it is useless to claim that Pearson has capacity since Medevac flights require priority at all hours of the day. Keep in mind that the GTAA operates Buttonville and during PEAK Pearson periods, they will shift some appropriate traffic to Buttonville.
Remove Buttonville from the equation and all that is left is the TCCA - an airport that is truly underutilized.
Take Care!

(Editor's note: Joe: Of course CommunityAIR cannot give a guarantee like that. We are not in the business of managing airports. But things can change, even at Pearson. Managers have to demand that these types of medivac emergencies have priority. Surely Pearson is not that bureaucratic that it cannot be sensitive to emergencies. That is what the public demands.)
