Comment: "The condos should go before the airport goes"
The Island Airport provides an essential service to the city. It makes it easier for business people, politicians and short stay tourists to visit without the hassle of going through Pearson and getting downtown from Malton. It also relieves traffic at Pearson. The Island Airport has been existence a lot longer then the condos that now line the Habourfront. If you don't like it, move.
Community Air is essentially an organisation funded and founded, in part by developers, who want to develop a Coney Island in place of the Airport with taxpayers money.
Many of the people who don't like the Island Airport are residents of the condos that line the Harbour front. These condos should go before the Airport goes since they pose a bigger problem. They are prone to sinking and flooding because they were built on reclaimed land, much like New Orleans. These condos were also built long after the Airport so these residents knew well in advance what to expect. Next they will demand that the streetcars be removed and restrict access to Queen's Quay. If you look at traffic studies, you will see that there is now more vehicle traffic on Queen's Quay, Lakeshore Blvd and the Gardiner Expressway then there was 20-30 yrs ago, yet there is no complaint about the noise or pollution it creates . No green space was created when the land for these condos was reclaimed and no accommodation was made for the public. So until Community Air starts to revitalize its own immediate area, by tearing up the concrete and asphalt and replacing it with true greenery, it has no right to say anything.
