PILTS appealed

According to a report in the Star on Feb. 25, City Council voted this week to appeal a decision over Payments In Lieu of Taxes (PILTS) that the federally appointed Toronto Port Authority owes the City.

The PILTS decision, by the federally appointed dispute advisory panel, said that the federally appointed Toronto Port Authority owed the City $5 million and not the $37 million that the City claimed.

The last time the City fared this badly was when federally appointed Roger Tasse found that all the controversial matters surrounding the federally appointed port authority were without merit.

A hearing by a federally appointed judge is expected in June.
