Tiresome Complainers

Methinks Mr. Freeman doth protest too much! I hate sounding like a sourpuss, but this constant barrage of entries on this public forum concerning noise complaints, curfew violations, Porter Airline’s negligence, and so forth is getting somewhat tiresome. What purpose is served when the simple fact is that the authorities who could do something about these breaches, won’t, just as they haven’t for well nigh 25 years? Community Air could maintain a running log of these instances, available on its site for public perusal, as a reference base. That would be useful. But this constant harping and gnashing of teeth in’t going to change the deeply entrenched complacency of the current “system”. It’s really barking up the wrong tree!

I grant that you that it is tiresome to hear the constant harping about the noise from the airport, but what are we to do?  We have sent in an endless number of complaints about excessive noise to the Toronto Port Authority who manage the airport and nothing happens.  The 11:00 pm airport curfew is violated with regularity.  Again we send in complaints and again nothing happens.

What are citizens to do when the authority regulating the Island Airport ignore their own regulations?  The staff members of the Toronto Port Authority, along with the TPA Board treat citizens with contempt.  It is a joke.  They have set up a system to register complaints and then absolutely nothing is done about them.

"Let them complain," they seem to be saying.  "It will help them work off their frustrations, but we intend to do nothing about the noise and curfew violations anyway."  That is a dishonest way to treat the public, in my view.

"Constant harping and gnashing of teeth" is all we are left with.  That is unless you have some other ideas.  We are always open to ideas.
