The Numbers Lie

On January 14, 2009, Mark McQueen, newly gerrymandered Chair of the Toronto Port Authority, wrote in a comment on this blog, “More than 50,000 people will use the TCCA this month.”

On January 22, a Toronto Star article stated that Ken Lundy, Toronto Island Airport Director, estimates that 45,000 passengers come through the airport each month.

Reading their respective public pronouncements raises several questions.

When the newly gerrymandered Chair and the airport director meet to discuss how well the airport is doing, do they meet in the same room?

If the newly gerrymandered Chair can’t get the numbers straight, should he ask Transport Minister Baird to appoint some new board members to help him with the math?

Does a shortfall of 60,000 passengers a year between cronies make any difference when they are desperate to put a positive spin on their dysfunctional operation?
