More, and still more comment

When I first moved to Toronto in 1976, I vividly recall the air traffic that utilzed the Island Airport at the time. Eventually, I took City Express to Ottawa and back.

As I think back, none of the condos west of the Harbour Square come to mind.

The Island Airport might now share its neighbourhood with a variety of residential, boating and commercial interests, but this is all relatively new. Back in the 1970s, when there was more Air Canada and City Express traffic than Porter currently carries, almost none of these residences existed: Tip Top was actually a factory; Molson had a brewery, etc. That these are now condos, and not industrial sites, is true. But no one should be surprised that they are living near an airport.

Much like Malton is now home to hundreds of thousands of people. Most of whom moved to the area after Pearson was first built. Close Pearson, too?

Co-existence must be the foundation of any urban centre. If not for that, people might believe that NIBMY was at the root of the effort to close the TCCA.
