Toronto Island Aircraft Disrupting your life?
You can log your complaints with the Toronto Port Authority. Yes, there is an online form which you can fill out, or a phone number that you can call to register your complaint about: low altitude flights, aircraft noise which is disrupting your life, late night flights which wake you and prevent you from enjoying a peaceful night of sleep and other intrusions into your life. With all the advertising that the Toronto Port Authority puts into promoting themselves, they never advertise that you can log you complaints at:
http://www.torontoport.com/Airport_CForm.asp
The Tripartite Agreement, which is the lease agreement under which this airport operates, has clear guidelines on the issues of Hours of Operation (6:45 am to 11:00 pm), the level of noise which are allowed at this airport, and the levels at which aircraft are restricted from flying below when over residential areas of the city (no lower than 1,000 feet - height of the CN Tower.)
Why take the trouble to do
this? You don't think that anything will ever be done?
Well, if you don't log your
complaints, you guarantee that nothing will change. However, if you log your
complaint as often as possible you will let the Toronto Port Authority, the City
of Toronto, the Federal Government and Transport Canada know that this
airport is located in the wrong place.
The Toronto Port Authority website also posts a monthly log of the noise and other complaints. Over the last few months we have watched this log grow significantly from a few to a lot. We know that there is a growing number of people who find the use of this airport to have a negative impact on their lives. It is important that this show up on the monthly logs.
Eventually, CommunityAIR and others will be doing an analysis of these complaints, and the responses from the Toronto Port Authority Management with a view to evaluating how affectively they are responding to the concerns of the community residents. Already, we have many points where we feel that they should be doing a much better job of managing their airport and it's users. To date there have been no substantive changes to the conduct of these users. However, logging your legitimate complaints will eventually provide us with the material to confront them on their inaction and what we view as lack of concern for the impact this airport is having on their neighbours and the city as a whole.
For example:
- There are some pilots who regularly fly low over the residences, and after one "Pilot Caution" we feel that there should be severe consequences for a second such incident
- There are many instances when aircraft break the curfew. NONE of these should be tolerated. Only Medical Helicopters that are leaving the airport on an emergency are exempt. Returning Helicopters are no longer on an emergency and should not be allowed to land at the Island airport until after 6:45 am.
- There are numerous instances of excessive noise and the Tripartite Agreement requires that these be noted and that the owner of the aircraft be fined for every instance of this, in the amount of $5,000, as valued in 1981 dollars. The TPA has noise monitoring equipment which should be recording these levels and they are required to impose these fines in all instances.
- There are many instances where the airport can not identify the aircraft complained about. Every car on the road has a license plate, every aircraft is registered and should be identifiable. This excuse is not to be tolerated, ever!!!!!
So please take a few moments to log your complaints. If you have trouble with the TPA website not functioning, let CommunityAIR know. We will follow up on these instances.
Alone we are helpless, Together we are strong. Together we can bring order and peace to our waterfront. And remember, if you think it is noisy now, with Porter Air flying 6 aircraft, just wait until he has 20 flying out of our waterfront. Will you wait until then to complain?
