Dear Noise Monitoring Office
Rebecca Quigley is a resident of Arcadia Co-op. Like many others she has been frustrated with the response from the Island Airport to her complaints about noise. This is a letter that she wrote expressing her frustrations.
Dear Noise Monitoring Office:
I was deeply disturbed by your response to my complaint. The noise at the airport has been so intolerable that over the past two months I believe I have sent 10 complaints. I have spoken to several other people in my building and I know they too have sent numerous complaints.
In the email response you sent, there is no indication that the concerns are being addressed aside from tabulating statistics.
Your website says: "The personal information collected in this form is used solely to respond to your complaint." This suggested to me that you would respond to my complaint.
You tell me "it is not possible to respond individually to each comment". Is this because there are too many complaints for you to respond to personally?
There is a legitimate problem that needs to be addressed. With the number of complaints you receive you must realize that the airport is causing a serious problem for your neighbours. The fact that my health and the health of my neighbours is being jeopardized is a major concern for me.
Yet, to my knowledge, no one from the Port Authority has come to our neighbourhood to check on the intensity of noise from the airport. Nothing is done about aircraft flying in after curfew. Nothing is done about the ferry noises which begin well before 7 AM. Nothing is done about the ear-splitting noise at run-up.
When we complain about helicopters all through the night, we are told that these are life saving situations and have precedence over our need for sleep. Yet nothing is done to move the medevac flights to Buttonville, where they would have a shorter distance to fly and therefore more likelihood of saving lives.
What actions are you taking to address my concerns and those of my neighbours? You say that "all comments are reviewed and analyzed". What sort of analysis is being carried out and what actions do you plan on taking to alleviate the devastating impact you are having on my neighbourhood?
It's Sunday evening - June 22nd and the noise from the airport most of the day has again made it impossible for me to carry on a conversation in my apartment with the windows open. This is not acceptable.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Quigley
