A comment regarding Allan Sparrow's obituary
I was deeply moved by Allan’s autobit – as much by the concept, I think, as by the content. It sure is the final word on having the last word. Though many words will follow, apparently, once his novel is published. And many words more, including these, as others write and speak about the man and his work, through which he contributed so much to his immediate and broader communities. Not the least of his contributions was his quiet confidence in fighting the forces of greed and venality. I observed this in Allan during my brief association with him in the ’80s, when I joined in volunteer tasks on The Badger. I burned out pretty quickly as an activist, but sure am glad that Allan did not. And I earnestly hope that the fight for the island, which was so much a part of his life, will ultimately be won by those continuing with it.
